Please consult the official list of registration offices published by the Central Bank of Costa Rica to schedule an appointment.

3. What should I do if my card is stolen or lost?

You must navigate to the SINPE Certificate Revocation page . Answer a few simple questions so that your digital signature can no longer be used by anyone.

5. Which are the authorized Registration Offices?

Please navigate to the official list of registration offices published by the Central Bank of Costa Rica.

6. Can someone steal my password from a document I digitally signed?

It's not possible. The key used to sign the document remains on your card and never leaves it. Everyone else verifies your digital signature using your public key.
On the other hand, you must jealously guard your card and not reveal your PIN to anyone.

7. Tips on using your card

Below are some practical tips for the secure use of your Digital Signature:

  • Keep the card with you, or in a safe place. You should treat it like your ID or bank card.

  • Never reveal the password to anyone, nor write it down anywhere. You must memorize it.

  • On websites or programs that use digital signatures, be sure to log out (if applicable), and always disconnect your card when you're finished using it. Never leave your card connected and unattended.

  • Protect your card. It contains delicate components that can be damaged by misuse.

8. I'm getting an error message saying my certificate has expiredWhich are the authorized Registration Offices?

This message may be due to the following reasons:

  • That your certificate has actually expired. Certificates have a validity period (usually 4 years).

  • If you are sure that your certificate has not expired (and you are sure that you have not revoked it), and yet you receive this error on a specific site's page, we suggest using our page's validation to check the certificate (use the "Certificate Verification" link in the left panel).

  • If our page indicates that the certificate is valid, it's possible the issue is specific to the page reporting the problem. In this case, please contact the issuing institution.

  • If all pages return the same error (or report CRL or OCSP errors), it's likely a problem at the Central Bank. Contact the Central Bank's Customer Service Center at 2243-4000.
